The South African Rugby Union team have been competing internationally since 1891, their first international being against a touring British Isles team. The team is currently coached by Heyneke Meyer and is ranked fourth in the World. South Africa, Australia and New Zealand have annually competed in the 'Tri-Nations' cup since 1996, South Africa have won this tournament three times; in 1998, 2004 and 2009. Argentina is set to join the Southern Hemisphere competition in 2012. The new tournament will be known as The Rugby Championship. Despite not participating in the first two Rugby World Cups, South Africa has still won the event twice, once when they hosted it for the first time in 1995 and again in 2007. Their team jersey colours are green and gold.
